APC Hails Edo Governor Okpehbolo on Court of Appeal Victory, Urges PDP to Embrace Unity
The court ruled that the appellants failed to provide credible evidence or witnesses to substantiate claims of over-voting or any miscarriage of justice.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated Edo State Governor, Monday Okpehbolo, and his Deputy, Denis Idahosa, following their victory at the Court of Appeal. The appellate court upheld Okpehbolo’s election win in the September 21, 2024, governorship election, dismissing the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
In a statement released by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party praised the judiciary for its independence and professionalism in delivering the judgment. “Our great Party applauds the judiciary for its display of independence and professionalism in its decision, again, affirming the will of the good people of Edo State,” Morka said. He expressed confidence that the victory would inspire Governor Okpehbolo to intensify efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the Edo people.
The Court of Appeal Abuja Division, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Danjuma, dismissed the appeal brought by the PDP and Ighodalo. The court ruled that the appellants failed to provide credible evidence or witnesses to substantiate claims of over-voting or any miscarriage of justice. “The foundation of the appellants’ case having collapsed, the appeal lacked merit and is hereby dismissed,” the judgment stated.
Following the ruling, the APC called on PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, to accept the verdict and join hands with Governor Okpehbolo in advancing Edo State’s development. “We urge the People Democratic Party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, to sheath his sword, and join the Governor in his unyielding efforts to bring meaningful development to the state, for the good of all,” Morka added.
Despite the setback, Ighodalo expressed dissatisfaction with the judgment and vowed to take the matter to the Supreme Court for further appeal.
This latest development marks a significant milestone in Edo State’s political landscape, reinforcing Governor Okpehbolo’s mandate and setting the stage for continued governance and development initiatives under his leadership.
