The Action Alliance (AA) has withdrawn the petition it filed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The party’s lawyers, led by Mr. Oba Maduabuchi, SAN, applied to discontinue further proceedings in the matter on Monday, shortly after the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) began its pre-hearing session. Oba, SAN, informed the court that the petitioners had filed a withdrawal notice on May 3.

After all the respondents in the matter took a no-objection stance, the five-member panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani dismissed the petition.

However, prior to the announcement of the withdrawal, another lawyer had introduced himself as the representative of the AA, claiming that the party did not consent to the action and wanted the petition struck out. Maduabuchi, however, insisted that he filed the petition on behalf of the 1st and 2nd petitioners.

Following this, Maduabuchi formally applied to withdraw the party’s petition. The main ground for AA’s petition was the alleged wrongful exclusion of David Okanigbuan, the party’s candidate, by INEC.
