The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has strongly criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s administration for prioritizing early political campaigns and 2027 re-election strategies over addressing Nigeria’s growing security and economic crises.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the ACF expressed deep disappointment over the government’s preoccupation with political defections and electoral maneuvers while insecurity, especially in northern Nigeria, continues to escalate unchecked.
The group also condemned what it described as reckless and insensitive public spending, citing a disturbing case in the proposed 2025 federal budget where streetlight projects were reportedly inserted at an outrageous cost of over N260 million each.
“There has been no official denial of these crassly reckless and surreal insertions,” the forum noted, calling it a reflection of the disconnect between public officials and the hardship facing ordinary Nigerians. “Such extravagance stands in stark contrast to the sacrifices being made daily by the people.”
According to the ACF, these questionable budget practices are not isolated to the federal level but are replicated by state governments across the country—further compounding the national malaise.
The group lamented what it called “delusional hubris” and “head-in-the-sand pronouncements” by security officials, which it said are at odds with the on-ground realities being reported by state governors. It warned that ignoring the worsening despair and frustration among citizens could lead to mass disillusionment and deeper societal unrest.
Despite these challenges, the ACF acknowledged the resilience of Nigerians, especially during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
“That Nigerians continue to endure—and even celebrate religious occasions like Eid—is a testament to their remarkable resilience. But this should not be taken for granted.”
Extending its greetings to Muslims across the country, the ACF described the Eid-el-Kabir as a solemn reminder of the values of sacrifice, unity, and devotion to God. It also noted that the festivities were taking place in the midst of harsh economic realities—soaring inflation, high cost of living, and the declining value of wages.
In conclusion, the forum reiterated that Nigeria’s dire situation could still be reversed through the genuine practice of good governance at all levels—local, state, and federal.
