The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, presided over the decoration ceremony of 12 Assistant Inspectors General of Police and 19 Commissioners of Police as they assumed their new ranks. The event unfolded at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, situated within the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

This ceremonial occasion followed the approval by the Police Service Commission of the Nigerian Police Force’s recommendation to elevate 31 officers, including AIGs and CPs, along with an additional 5,687 dedicated senior officers within the force. Among these, 12 former Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police. The distinguished officers included Ogundele Ayodeji, Patrick Edung, Badru Lawal, Bartholomew Onyeka, Suleiman Yusuf, Idowu Owohunwa, Rhoda Olofu, Godwin Aghaulor, Effiom Ekot, Stanley Ude, Longe Patrick, and Ndu Anene.

This auspicious gathering was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Governors from Abia, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Kogi, and Lagos States, Dame Patience Ebele Jonathan, the former Inspector General Usman Baba, and his wife. It also featured the Senator representing Kogi Central, royal figures from Kogi and Lagos States, members of the Force Management Team, senior police officers, family members, friends, and well-wishers of the promotees.

In his address, the Inspector-General of Police commended the newly promoted officers for their dedication, hard work, and exceptional commitment to upholding law and order in their respective duty posts. He charged them to maintain the core values of service, sacrifice, and selflessness as they carry out their duties in their enhanced roles. The promotions, he emphasized, signify added responsibilities and reflect the trust placed in these officers to set exemplary standards.

The Inspector-General extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the promoted officers and urged them to redouble their efforts in serving the nation. He expressed his gratitude to the Police Service Commission for conducting a thorough and objective evaluation of the officers’ performances and pledged to enhance collaboration for continued excellence and the fulfillment of the Nigerian Police Force’s duty to serve and protect the people of Nigeria.
