Air Strike Targets Illegal Activities in Multiple States

The air component of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) conducted precision air missions on various illicit activities across different states. On August 27, 2023, these missions encompassed three distinct areas: illegal refining sites at Cawthorne Channels, Bille, and Gogokori in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet said following thorough assessments indicating the presence of unauthorized refining operations, these sites were subjected to targeted air strikes resulting in their obliteration. Notably, at Gogokori, a Cotonou boat carrying illicitly refined products and headed towards open waters was also neutralized.

In a parallel effort, the strikes extended to Idama in Akuku-toru Local Government Area and Omoma in Degema Local Government Area, both within Rivers State. These strikes were prompted by intelligence reports revealing ongoing refining activities at these locations.

During the reconnaissance over these sites, active illegal refining sites were identified, accompanied by reservoirs suspected to harbor illegally refined substances. The said reservoirs were subsequently engaged, leading to their complete destruction and ignition of flames.

This series of aerial interventions underscores the commitment of Operation Delta Safe to curbing unlawful activities across multiple states, thus contributing to the maintenance of security and stability in the regions.
