A series of precision airstrikes effectively targeted and eliminated terrorists in the vicinity of Bukar Meram, located in Borno State. These relentless aerial operations, carried out by the Air Components of various theaters across the country, have consistently yielded highly impactful results.
According to the Air Force Spokesman Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, In the early hours of October 14, 2023, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) executed strategic air interdiction missions against a newly discovered terrorist hideout near the Lake Chad region, specifically in the Bukar Meram area. This offensive response became imperative upon confirming reports of the relocation of terrorists from Suwa to Bukar Meram, hinting at a potential resurgence of attacks against ground troops and innocent civilians. Consequently, the decision to authorize air strikes in Bukar Meram was made with the aim of decimating the terrorists’ capabilities. Subsequent feedback revealed that these strikes achieved their intended objective, neutralizing multiple terrorists, and inflicting substantial damage by destroying over 40 motorcycles and 6 gun trucks. This successful operation significantly undermined the terrorists’ capacity to target both ground troops and innocent Nigerians.
It’s worth noting that earlier, on October 11, 2023, the Air Component of Operation Haradin Daji had also conducted a similar operation against terrorists in the Sangeko area of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State. In this case, the terrorists, operating in a convoy consisting of around 70 motorcycles along the Kabaro-Sangeko route, were engaged. The result was multiple terrorists neutralized, their motorcycles destroyed, and some others injured.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has duly praised the professionalism and unwavering commitment of the Air Components in disrupting the terrorists’ mobility and preventing their attacks on innocent, law-abiding citizens. He emphasized the significance of their support to ground troops and encouraged them to maintain their dedication, avoiding complacency, as the mission to provide citizens with the security they deserve remains paramount.
