Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is set to commence a medical leave on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, for continued medical treatment, as announced in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, in Akure.
Olatunde conveyed that during his medical absence, the governor will prioritize his health to ensure a complete recovery before resuming official duties. A formal letter detailing the medical leave and a notice officially transferring power, in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution, will be forwarded to the House of Assembly.
In Governor Akeredolu’s absence, Deputy Governor Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa will assume the responsibilities of the Governor in an acting capacity. The statement expressed Governor Akeredolu’s gratitude for the steadfast support of the people of Ondo State and assured them of his administration’s continued commitment to progress and prosperity.
As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a highly respected figure, Governor Akeredolu has consistently entrusted power to his deputy during his annual vacations. This practice has been observed on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023, during his previous vacation periods.
