Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Joins APC: Akpabio Declares ‘Development Only From Ruling Party’

UYO, AKWA IBOM – [Today’s Date] – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reportedly joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The move was welcomed and announced by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who asserted that development could only emanate from the party controlling the federal government.

Speaking at an event in Uyo on Friday, where Governor Eno’s defection was announced, Senator Akpabio, represented by his wife, Mrs. Uloma Akpabio, congratulated the Governor and stated he would not regret the decision to join the APC.

“Our dear governor, God’s chosen Pastor Umo Eno. The latest member of the APC, you are welcome, sir. Congratulations,” Akpabio’s message read. Addressing the Governor, he added, “Our dear governor, with your defection to APC it has made your work very easy.”

Comparing the Governor’s situation to his own experience joining the APC in the past, Akpabio noted the current ease. “During our own time, it was like entering a forest with a knife… But I am very glad you have seen the light, and God has seen your heart that you mean well for our people.”

Akpabio emphatically stated the rationale behind the move, claiming it was essential for progress in the state. “Because you are a child of God, God has opened your eyes to see the light. And you know that every development can only come from the APC.”

He attributed the smoother transition to the current political climate under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his own position as Senate President. “You have a president who has the vision, you have a Senate President who doesn’t like to fight. It wouldn’t have been this easy. I am so excited, I am glad. My heart is full of joy.”

The Senate President also extended an invitation to other politicians from the state, both those who had previously left the APC and members of other parties, to join the fold.

Akpabio, however, cautioned Governor Eno to prepare for potential criticism and hostility from stakeholders. “Speaking further Akpabio reminded governor Eno to get ready because stakeholders would malign criticize, and insult him,” the message relayed. He encouraged the Governor, as a person of faith, not to fear such reactions. “You shall fear no one. God will give you peace, and protect your family.”

He lauded Governor Eno for the action, framing it as a selfless decision. “God will bless you for taking this bold decision. It’s not an easy one because you did it for the sake of Akwa Ibom people, not because of you or your children,” Akpabio advised.

Reinforcing the significance of the defection, the Akwa Ibom State Secretary to State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, speaking on behalf of the Commissioners and Special Advisers, affirmed their collective resolve to follow the Governor into the APC.
