Dele Alake, the newly appointed Minister of Solid Minerals, has shed light on the reasons behind the commotion caused by his appointment among President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet members.
Alake acknowledged that many had anticipated his assignment as the Minister of Information, given his background, expertise, and notable track record in perception and information management.
Alake revealed that, contrary to expectations, the administration chose to take an unexpected approach. He shared these insights on Monday, August 21, during his inauguration into office in Abuja.
Alake emphasized the paramount importance of the solid minerals sector in driving the nation’s economic growth and vitality.He explained that President Tinubu’s decision to entrust him with the Ministry of Solid Minerals was founded on his proven sense of responsibility and determination to advance the sector’s agenda.
Alake expressed, “My portfolio has caused quite a stir within the entire cabinet due to my background, exposure, and expertise in perception and information management.
Most people had pigeonholed me for the Information Ministry, so we deliberately surprised everyone.”In analyzing global trends in economic development, Alake highlighted the diminishing significance of hydrocarbons, such as oil, and the global shift towards alternative energy sources like gas and electric cars.
He noted that solid minerals are poised to become the next economic growth catalyst.Given the sector’s pivotal role in the nation’s economic progress and President Tinubu’s commitment to the country’s vitality, Alake stressed that his appointment was apt and well-suited.
He cited his demonstrated sense of responsibility and courage as the foundation for driving the ministry’s agenda forward.
Alake elaborated on his modus operandi, emphasizing results-oriented focus over rigid adherence to civil service protocols.
He stated, “In my world, where I come from, you know you are in the civil service and have your rules and regulations but in my world, there are no strictures. My modus operandi is results; I really don’t care how you get me the results as long as you use legitimate means to achieve them.
”He affirmed his commitment to setting a focused agenda with clear objectives to achieve desired outcomes.
Alake also underscored the need for attitudinal change, highlighting that memos reaching his desk would be addressed swiftly, regardless of subject matter. He concluded, “Whoever doesn’t align with this approach will have to exit.”
