The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially dissolved the executive body of the Rivers State chapter of the party. Led by Abdullahi Ganduje, the NWC has concurrently established a caretaker committee to facilitate the organization of a congress for the election of new executives.

This decision follows a period of discontent within the party, notably expressed by chieftains aligned with former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi. These party members, led by the state governorship candidate Tonye Cole, had previously voiced concerns that President Bola Tinubu had seemingly favored the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his supporters over their interests.

Speaking to the press at the party secretariat, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, announced that the committee’s inauguration is scheduled for Friday at the party secretariat. Morka, accompanied by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Ladipo, unveiled the names of Wike’s loyalists who constitute the seven-member caretaker committee.

Chief Tony Okocha is appointed as the committee’s chairman, with Eric Nwibani serving as Secretary. Other members include Chibuike Ikenga, Stephen Abolo, Silvester Vidin, Senibo Dan-Jumbo, and Miss Darling Amadi.

Morka specified that the caretaker committee would hold office for a duration of six months until substantive new executive members for the Rivers APC are elected.
