Major-General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, during a bi-weekly media briefing, has revealed that troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria have recorded significant achievements in various theatres of operation. The operations resulted in the neutralization of 286 terrorists, the arrest of 244 individuals, and the apprehension of 83 perpetrators of oil theft. Additionally, 122 kidnapped hostages were rescued.
Major-General Buba stated that troops of Operation Delta Safe successfully thwarted oil thieves in the Niger-Delta region, preventing the theft of crude oil worth over N2.5 billion. The military’s commitment to ensuring the security and safety of citizens across the country was emphasized.
During the operations, troops recovered 587 assorted weapons, including 207 AK47 rifles, 56 locally fabricated guns, and 17 pump-action guns. The Director highlighted the importance of addressing the security challenges facing the country, and the military’s role in providing practical solutions.
In his breakdown, Major-General Buba mentioned the recovery of 7,943 assorted ammunition, 14 vehicles, 32 motorcycles, and the discovery and destruction of illegal refining sites in the Niger Delta. Troops also recovered stolen crude oil and other illegally refined products.
Despite the military’s successes in counterinsurgency operations, Major-General Buba acknowledged the need for a holistic approach beyond military pressure. He called for collaborative efforts and alternative ideas to address the root causes of insurgency, emphasizing the importance of good governance and community support.
Major-General Buba concluded by urging patriotic citizens to contribute ideas that can make a difference in turning the security situation around. He emphasized the resilience of the Nigerian people and expressed confidence that the challenges faced would eventually be overcome through collective efforts and collaboration.
