Major General Edward Buba, Director of the Defence Media Operations (DMO), has emphasized that the Armed Forces of Nigeria are unwavering in their commitment to triumph over terrorism across the nation. In a statement to the press on Friday in Abuja, General Buba underscored the imperative for victory in the ongoing battle against terrorism for the betterment of the country.
Highlighting recent accomplishments, General Buba reported that over the past week, Nigerian troops successfully neutralized 43 terrorists, apprehended 115 suspects, and seized 87 assorted weapons along with 666 rounds of assorted ammunition. He affirmed the armed forces’ determination to defeat terrorists both on the battlefield and in their concealed locations, paving the way for the nation’s prosperity.
Detailing the operations conducted during the focused week, General Buba mentioned a series of offensive actions, including ambushes, raids, fighting patrols, and others. These efforts resulted in the neutralization of 43 terrorists, 115 arrests, and the recovery of various weapons and ammunition.
The recovered items included 11 AK47 rifles, one FN rifle, 2 pump-action guns, 8 locally fabricated guns, 11 dane guns, 2 locally fabricated pistols, one macarrol pistol, one berretta pistol, one fabricated SMG, one locally made mortar with an empty bomb, 4 IEDs, and various rounds of ammunition.
Additionally, troops arrested 17 individuals involved in oil theft, rescued 39 kidnapped hostages, and prevented the theft of an estimated sum of N159,652,620.00 in the South-South region. The recovered loot comprised cash, weapons, vehicles, mobile phones, motorcycles, bicycles, and other assorted items.
In the Niger Delta area, troops destroyed 20 dugout pits, 29 boats, 31 storage tanks, one tricycle, and 3 vehicles. They also recovered 315,700 liters of stolen crude oil, 1,200 liters of illegally refined AGO, and 3,158 liters of DPK. General Buba urged the public to act responsibly, emphasizing the collective responsibility of citizens in supporting the military’s efforts and creating conditions conducive to a swift victory.
Reassuring the public, General Buba stated, “The armed forces remain focused and are continuing their counter-insurgency campaign against terrorists and their cohorts operating across the country.” He emphasized ongoing efforts to neutralize terrorist leaders, foot soldiers, and degrade their military capabilities, preventing them from achieving their strategic objectives.
