The Lamidi Apapa Faction of the Labour Party has recently made a controversial call on the military to arrest Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, and anyone else who is seeking to disrupt the transition process and the upcoming inauguration of President-elect, Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.
Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Apapa Faction, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja after the FCT High Court reaffirmed Lamidi Apapa as the acting chairman of the party.
Arabambi expressed concern over the alleged efforts to disrupt the transition process and emphasized the need for stability and order during this critical time in the country’s political history.
He also called on the party’s legal team at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) in Abuja to brief Apapa on the legal proceedings within 48 hours. Arabambi warned that if the party’s legal team failed to meet with Apapa, they would appoint new lawyers to take over the Labour Party’s case at the tribunal.
The call for the military to arrest Peter Obi and anyone else who is against the transition process has sparked controversy and criticism from various quarters.
Some have accused the Apapa Faction of trying to stifle democracy and suppress dissenting voices. Others have called for a peaceful and inclusive transition process that respects the rule of law and the will of the people.
As the political drama continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the situation will play out in the coming weeks and months, and what impact it will have on the future of the Labour Party and the country’s political landscape.
