Atiku Condemns EFCC’s Arrest of Ex-Reps Member, Calls it “Lawlessness”

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the arrest of Muhammad Kazaure, a former member of the House of Representatives and a vocal critic of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement on Saturday, Atiku described Kazaure’s arrest as an “abduction” and accused the EFCC of disregarding due process and ignoring the law.

According to Atiku, Kazaure was picked up in Kano and taken to Abuja, where he is being held without being charged or given any explanation for his detention.

Atiku expressed concern that Kazaure is being held incommunicado, with no access to his family or legal team. He noted that this is not the first time the EFCC has been accused of such actions, recalling the arrest and detention of Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, which sparked widespread public outrage.

The former Vice President stated that the EFCC’s actions demonstrate a “brazen disregard for due process and the rule of law.” He emphasized that Kazaure’s arrest is a clear example of the EFCC’s pattern of “lawlessness” and its tendency to target citizens who speak out against the government.

Atiku’s statement read in part, “Now, the EFCC has targeted Hon. Muhammad Kazaure, a former member of the House of Representatives and an unapologetic critic of the gross misgovernance and failings of the Tinubu administration.

Abducted in Kano and whisked away to Abuja, Kazaure is presently being held incommunicado, with no formal charge or explanation offered to his family, legal team, or the Nigerian people.”

The arrest of Kazaure has raised concerns about the EFCC’s motives and the Tinubu administration’s tolerance for dissent. Atiku’s criticism of the EFCC’s actions has added to the growing public outcry, calling for the agency to be more transparent and accountable in its operations.

As the situation continues to unfold, many are watching to see how the EFCC will respond to the allegations and whether Kazaure will be released or charged with any offense.
