Atiku’s Coalition Rejects Claims of Adopting ADC

The opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform for the 2027 general election.

The coalition, which includes opposition leaders and disgruntled members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also rejected reports that it appointed Salihu Lukman, a former APC Vice Chairman (Northwest), as Head of its Secretariat.

In a statement issued Thursday in Abuja, Lukman—who serves as the coalition’s interim spokesperson—dismissed the reports as entirely false.

He said, “The public should disregard the story, as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken.”

Lukman also debunked claims that the coalition adopted ADC during its meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Negotiations are progressing very well, and once we reach a consensus, the leaders will make a formal announcement,” Lukman stated.

He clarified that coalition leaders are still holding negotiations and have not yet decided on a political platform for the 2027 elections. He accused certain individuals of spreading misinformation to create division within the coalition.

“These mischief makers are planting false stories in the media to sow discord among coalition leaders,” he warned and urged the public and media to ignore such claims until the coalition concludes its discussions and makes official decisions.
