Bode George Condemns Police Siege on PDP Secretariat, Urges Authorities Not to Turn Nigeria Into Russia

Chief Bode George, former deputy national chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has condemned the police for blocking members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) from entering the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.

Security forces took control of the PDP headquarters and barred BoT members from accessing the National Executive Committee (NEC) hall, forcing them to relocate their meeting to the Yar’Adua Centre in the Central Business District.

George denounced the blockade as an attack on internal democracy. “They stopped us from meeting in our own office. What is happening? This is madness. Can’t we sit down and talk? Isn’t that what democracy is about? Nigerians are watching,” he said.

He criticized the police action as a violation of the rights of party elders. “You surround our office with police just because we want to meet? Do you want to turn this country into North Korea or Russia? We won’t accept it. Nigerians won’t accept it,” George stated.

He warned authorities to respect the law and not provoke further tension. “Let everyone operate within the law. I’ve seen both the military and civilian sides of this country. Whoever gave that order from above must be careful.”

George concluded by urging those responsible to shift focus to solving Nigeria’s pressing issues—economic hardship, financial instability, poor education, and crumbling infrastructure—rather than fueling political intimidation.
