The Borno State Police Command has officially commissioned the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Training School in Maiduguri. The event took place at the training school’s premises along Wulari Bypass in Maiduguri.
The newly established school is designed to enhance the capacity of the police force in managing and neutralizing explosive threats. Its objectives include reintegrating affected communities and strengthening law enforcement officers’ skills in handling explosives safely, with the goal of reducing bomb explosions and improving public safety across the region.
The repreaentative of Commissioner of Police Borno State Police Command Ahmed Mohammed Bello who is the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration emphasized that the school will play a crucial role in reinforcing security measures, enabling police personnel to better carry out their duties and protect the society from the growing threat of explosive devices.
He said “UK. Well, like I mentioned, they are strategic partners, and at the end of the day, they partner together with Nigeria police force, the Lake Chad Basin support framework to see to the actualization of the school and not only that, in terms of enhancing the capacity of our personnel, they are equally participating in training of the personnel”
“within the last fifteen years, Nigeria has been bedeviled by violent crimes and criminality, the issue of explosive ordinance, bombs, mines Boko Harams and so on, therefore, hence the need for the training school” He emphasized.
Lastly “we wish to register our deep seated appreciation to our strategic partner who contributed immensely to see to the success of these beautiful event, and I want to assure you that we are going to make massive utilization of the school our divisional police officers and headholders were a year train, even before the commission”.
Earlier, the representative of the United Nations Edwin Faigmane who is the Chief Mine Action Programme for UN Mine Action Service said the organization is ever ready to partner with the Borno state police force to stop the menace of Bomb Explosion in the state.
” we would continue to partner with the Borno State Police Force in the future through the center once again and we encourage each organizations and local NGOs and also other security agencies to liaise with the police command here and the EOD school to make use of this facility. it’s a training facility to train as many people behind in life seeking skills so that they can prevent home and the communities where they live”.
On his part, Roger Fawcus the Senior Military Advisor MBE for Lake Chad Basin Support Framework also dwelt extensively on the importance of the training school.
“Explosive Ordnance Disposal plays a crucial role in ensuring public safety, security, and the proper functioning of a state’s defense and emergency services”.
