Chief of Defence Staff Initiates Inquiry into Clash Between Nigerian Army and Police in Adamawa State

In a determined move to address the recent clash between operatives of the Military and the Nigeria Police Force in Adamawa State, resulting in the death of Inspector Jacob Daniel, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has announced the commencement of a thorough inquiry. General Musa made this commitment during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

During the meeting, General Musa expressed deep concern about the incident and underscored the necessity of understanding its root cause. He stated unequivocally that any military personnel found to be at fault would face the consequences, emphasizing the importance of accountability within the armed forces. To ensure a fair and transparent investigation, General Musa mentioned the establishment of a standing court-martial specifically for addressing offenses related to the incident.

“I have already established a standing court-martial for offenses. I have seen the roles and responsibilities of the Court Martial in the theater, and I have done so that whatever it is that has happened, those that are found culpable will face the music,” General Musa asserted. He emphasized the dual nature of the military system, where performance is rewarded and shortcomings are appropriately addressed.

“we don’t shy away from punishing them the system we have now is punishment and reward you do well we reward you, you do badly you are persecuted and that will definitely take place so I assure members of the police force and all the security agencies that we must continue to act professionally a reminder is that Nigeria is our country we all have equal stake in this country, it is together that we can make it work there is no single organisation that can achieve success so the issue of bribery or fighting, we are supposed to face the criminals not to face each other and for me I feel it is very  unprofessional for them to have resulted to the use of violence within themselves but we’ll get to the bottom of this and the end of it will make us better and I want to encourage all of us not to give in and not so also on our own feel that it is all over, it not these kind of things bring us together and makes us want to work and do better and we have to look at our training probably at the lower level and will find out that in the inhospitable we have skim it is and we’ll try and work on that so we can ensure that we work together’’ General Musa Said

The Chief of Defence Staff expressed disappointment in the use of violence between security agencies, stating, He urged professionalism and collaboration among security agencies, highlighting the need for unity in achieving success against criminal elements. General Musa also indicated a review of training at lower levels to address any deficiencies and enhance cooperation between the military and police.

In response, Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, assured General Musa of the police’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration. Acknowledging the historical cooperation between the military and police, Egbetokun pledged to strengthen collaboration for the greater good of the people they serve.
