Seminar Explores Non-Kinetic Efforts in Security Management
In a one-day seminar organized by the Defence Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, addressed the complex challenges facing Nigeria. Urging citizens to refrain from negative rhetoric and cursing the nation and its leaders, General Musa emphasized the importance of fostering a positive outlook for national productivity.
The seminar, themed “Civil-Military Relations: Non-Kinetic Efforts of the Nigerian Military in Security Management, Challenges, and Prospects,” provided a platform for intellectual discourse on critical national security issues. General Musa commended the organizers for facilitating such meaningful discussions.
During his address, General Musa stressed the power of words and the need for citizens to remain loyal to constitutional authorities while expressing patriotism for the nation. He encouraged a constructive approach to criticism, emphasizing the importance of offering solutions when leaders err.
The CDS noted that many countries faced challenges, but their approach to problem-solving differed, citing the need for Nigerians to take ownership of their country. He emphasized the significance of speaking positively about the nation and its leaders to foster growth.
Acknowledging the evolving nature of security threats globally, General Musa highlighted the shift towards non-kinetic approaches in addressing conflicts. He recognized the armed forces’ efforts in adopting non-military and soft strategies to counter the multifaceted security threats Nigeria faces.
General Musa outlined the diverse security challenges confronting the nation, from separatism and terrorism to intercommunal conflicts and transnational organized crimes. Despite the enormity of these challenges, he called for a positive narrative about the country.
Expressing confidence in the federal government’s commitment to providing resources for effective military operations, General Musa believes that sustained efforts will lead to the end of insurgency activities in the country.
The President of the Defence Correspondents’ Association, Comrade Ismail Musa, highlighted the seminar’s role in supporting the military’s efforts to address insurgency activities in Nigeria. The event brought together journalists, military officials, and experts to engage in informed discussions aimed at finding solutions to the nation’s security challenges.
