The Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila has embarked on a comprehensive tour of the N21 billion State House Hospital, specifically the Presidential Wing. Being the first from this administration to inspect the facility, the Chief of Staff shared his impressions during a press briefing.

Addressing the media, he acknowledged the longstanding discussions surrounding the clinic, dating back to his tenure as Speaker in the National Assembly. Having spent several months in the current role, the Chief of Staff felt compelled to witness firsthand the developments within the facility.

Expressing satisfaction with the tour, he commended the clinic’s global standards, highlighting its world-class equipment that surpasses those found in many places worldwide. Notably, he emphasized the clinic’s capabilities, citing examples such as a state-of-the-art Cath Lab and specialized equipment like the C-ARM, indicating a judicious use of appropriated funds during his time as Speaker.

Looking forward, the Chief of Staff noted that the final touches and necessary adjustments are now in the hands of the responsible authorities. He expressed confidence that, upon completion, the State House Hospital would stand as a proud symbol of international standards.

Dr. Jane Ifechukwu, Chairman of Clinical Services at the State House, shed light on the current status of the facility. She explained that the previous administration had halted progress, leaving the facility in a skeletal state. She clarified that the current administration awaits approval from higher authorities to proceed with the necessary finishing touches.

Responding to inquiries about the timeline for operationalization, Dr. Ifechukwu conveyed that the administration discourages medical tourism. However, the decision to open the facility for public use hinges on directives from the principals, with the Permanent Secretary expected to provide the necessary directives. The eagerly anticipated utilization of the State House Hospital awaits the green light from the highest echelons of leadership.
