In an operation that involved the coordinated efforts of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, and the Department of State Services, two fighters associated with IPOB/ESN were neutralized, and five others were apprehended following a fierce encounter.
The incident took place on July 17, 2023, in the general area of Fuji Junction in Asaba, Delta State. The combined troops responded swiftly to distress calls reporting an attack by terrorists on the community.
The terrorists were unable to withstand the overwhelming firepower of the troops, resulting in the fall of two of their members during the ensuing firefight.
The surviving terrorists fled to their hideout around Okpanam River, but the gallant troops pursued them relentlessly. The pursuit led to the successful apprehension of the fleeing criminals in a house within the enclave near Okpanam River.

During the operation, the troops seized significant weaponry, including one AK-47 Rifle, one Pump Action Semi Automatic Rifle, 15 Live Cartridges, one AK-47 Rifle Magazine, and a Baofeng Radio Receiver.
We urge the public to continue cooperating with the security agencies by providing actionable information to support their efforts in tackling security challenges.
Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, expressed his admiration for the combined troops’ outstanding effort and urged them to sustain their collaborative synergy as they work towards restoring peace and tranquility in the region.
