A sustained series of airstrikes on terrorists’ hideouts and strongholds in Borno State, located in Northeast Nigeria, persisted over the weekend. Following intelligence received from the Land Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on October 29, 2023, reporting the presence of approximately 22 terrorists on a gun truck and two motorcycles near Marte, the Air Component of OPHK swiftly deployed NAF aircraft to intercept the group.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet the Air Force Spokesman said in a statement that the aerial reconnaissance identified the terrorists about 22 kilometers west of Marte, as they moved northward in the direction of Munguno. After trailing the terrorists for approximately 70 minutes, they halted their progress under a tree, possibly for refueling or to avoid detection. Subsequently, the targets were engaged with a substantial explosion observed, completely destroying the gun truck and motorcycles. The extensive blast suggests that the location where the terrorists had taken cover may have been a logistics hub, or their vehicle was transporting weapons or explosive materials.

The terrorists’ unsuccessful attempts to avoid detection and the formidable firepower of the Land and Air Components of Operation Hadin Kai, as evidenced by their constant relocation, reveal their inability to establish a fixed presence and pose significant threats to military installations or easily target civilians. Their conduct continues to betray their desperation and weakening position.
In a development as recent as October 28, 2023, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State spoke with State House correspondents, noting a remarkable improvement in the security situation in the state, with a recovery rate of over 85 percent in economic activities. This positive change underscores the effectiveness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies. According to Governor Zulum, “In my capacity as the Chief Security Officer of Borno State, I am pleased to report that our security situation has significantly improved, and I commend the Service Chiefs for their diligent efforts.
