The Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Wale Adeniyi, has dispelled speculations by affirming that President Bola Tinubu has not given any directive for the reopening of all Nigerian borders, contrary to rumors circulating.

It should be noted that all land borders were completely closed from 2018 to 2021 in an effort to curb illegal activities.

Following a meeting with President Tinubu at the State House on Tuesday, the Comptroller General of Customs clarified that only five borders have been reopened so far.

He further mentioned that plans are underway to reopen all borders, and the official announcement will be made publicly in due course.

The discussion between the Acting Comptroller General and President Tinubu primarily centered on the active engagement of Customs administrations across Nigeria’s strategic borders to bolster border security and regional stability.

Additionally, the Acting Comptroller General revealed his intention to visit Benin Republic within a week to seek partnerships aimed at addressing border security, importation challenges, and implementing technology solutions to handle complex border situations.

Expressing optimism, the Acting Comptroller General stated his belief that smuggling activities will soon be effectively curtailed.
