COP28 Summit: President Tinubu Holds Productive Climate Discussion with King Charles in Dubai

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu met with King Charles III of England in Dubai, the host city of the COP28 Climate Summit. Both leaders, participating in the conference attended by leaders from over 198 countries, engaged in discussions on climate advocacy.

President Tinubu shared news of the meeting on his official account, highlighting King Charles III’s commitment to climate issues. He stated, “I had a productive meeting with His Majesty, King Charles III of England, who is also the Head of the Commonwealth and a passionate climate advocate.” Tinubu emphasized the significance of the meeting in strengthening the partnership between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Expressing optimism about the joint efforts, President Tinubu emphasized the positive impact on the planet’s future, aiming to set an equitable global standard for environmental stewardship at COP28.

The meeting in Dubai marked President Tinubu’s first engagement upon arriving in the city. Earlier in the day, during the presentation of the 2024 budget proposal to the National Assembly, he disclosed directing relevant government agencies to diligently pursue substantial funding commitments for Nigeria’s energy transition.

President Tinubu urged proactive engagement by Nigerian representatives at COP28 to showcase the country’s progress in creating an enabling environment for sustainable energy projects. He emphasized the importance of attracting international partnerships and investments aligned with national goals, envisioning a future where energy serves as a catalyst for development and environmental stewardship.
