Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled June 27 for judgment in the case filed by suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, challenging her removal from the Senate.

Akpoti-Uduaghan sued the National Assembly, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Senate, and Senator Neda Imasuen—Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct—alleging her suspension was biased and unjust.

Originally assigned to Justice Obiora Egwuatu, the case was later transferred to Justice Nyako.

At Monday’s hearing, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Jibrin Okutekpa, confirmed compliance with the court’s directive to file all relevant documents. Lawyers representing the Senate and Senate President—Paul Daudu and Ekwo Ejembi—also stated their filings were complete. However, they accused the senator of contempt, citing a Facebook post and newspaper publication from March 27 where she made a satirical apology to the Senate President.

In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s second counsel, Michael Numan, noted that they had also filed a contempt motion against the defendants. He denied that the statement in question was authored by his client, arguing it bore no link to her.

The court will deliver its final decision on June 27.
