The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has begun deploying technology to combat smuggling and regulate transportation between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin, according to its Comptroller General, Adewale Adeniyi.
During a working visit to the Ogun II Area Command in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Adeniyi announced that the service had already developed the technology and started piloting it at the Seme-Krake border.
He explained that once the pilot program succeeds, the NCS will roll out the technology across other border points to significantly reduce smuggling. He emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in this effort.
“I visited the Republic of Benin and met with my counterparts. Since then, we’ve collaborated on various issues. They’ve actively provided platforms for information and intelligence exchange,” Adeniyi said.
Meanwhile, Bisi Alade, the Area Controller of Ogun II Area Command, reported that the command generated over N15 billion in revenue during the first quarter of 2025.
