Defence Headquarters and British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) Launch Regional Security Training in Abuja

In a joint initiative, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) have commenced a comprehensive 5-day training program under the theme “Managing Defence in a Wider Security Context.” The training is scheduled from January 22 to January 26, 2024, at the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Conference Hall in Asokoro, Abuja. Security management experts from various fields are expected to convene for this collaborative effort.

Representing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Major General HI Mabeokwe, the Director of Peacekeeping Operations at DHQ, emphasized the significance of the training and extended a warm welcome to the BMATT training team. Noteworthy participants include military personnel from diverse West African countries.

The curriculum of the training program is meticulously crafted to tackle the complexities of managing defence within a broader security framework. Lectures will span various pertinent topics, such as Regional Security and the New World Order, Challenges for Human Security in 21st Century West Africa, International Human Rights Law, Rules of Engagement, and Maintaining Integrity in Complex Security Environments. Sessions will include syndicated presentations and exercises to foster interactive learning.

Leading the training sessions are distinguished individuals including Lieutenant Colonel Dominic Spencer, Dr. Caroline Midelewright, and other directing staff. Their expertise is expected to provide valuable insights and enhance the participants’ understanding of the subject matter.

The collaboration between DHQ and BMATT underscores a shared commitment to advancing knowledge and expertise in defence management within the West African region. Through this international cooperation and the exchange of best practices, the training seeks to empower military personnel with enhanced capabilities to address evolving security challenges.
