Defence Headquarters Unleashes Comprehensive Strategy to Combat Kidnapping Surge in FCT

In a resolute stance against the rising wave of kidnappings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has pledged it commitment to crush kidnapping syndicates operating in the region. Major General Edward Baba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, delivered this assurance as part of the comprehensive weekly report on the armed forces’ operations, addressing the increasing concerns among FCT residents.

Acknowledging the profound impact of kidnappings on affected families and the heightened fear among residents, Major General Baba outlined the multifaceted approach being implemented by the armed forces. He confirmed the collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders, emphasizing the collective effort to neutralize kidnappers and restore security in the territory.

Major General Baba disclosed that the armed forces have strategically prioritized areas plagued by kidnapping incidents, implementing heightened ground and air surveillance to curtail criminal activities. Technological advancements have also been leveraged to identify the hideouts and enclaves of kidnapping gangs. The operational tempo has been elevated to locate, degrade, and ultimately destroy these criminal elements.

While acknowledging that the armed forces may not have all the answers at present, Major General Baba reassured citizens that relentless efforts are underway to address the distressing situation. He highlighted the synergy between troops, security services, and stakeholders to intensify investigations and gather crucial intelligence on kidnapping gangs, particularly in the FCT.

The report provided updates on areas successfully cleared by troops, including Kawu, Gaba, Deidei, Kubwa Hills, and Ushafa in the FCT, as well as locations in Niger and Kaduna states. Additionally, Major General Baba emphasized the implementation of intensified night patrols in strategic areas such as Mpape, Kubwa, Lugbe, Pyakasa, Keti, Gbaupe, Gbaukuchi, and Airport Road, underscoring the concerted efforts to enhance security and curb the activities of kidnappers in the FCT and its environs.
