Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi says he will support Peter Obi if he runs in 2027. He made this declaration during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
Obi, former governor of Anambra State, ran under the Labour Party in 2023. He gained huge support, especially from young people and civil society groups. Now, with 2027 still years away, political conversations are heating up again.
Farotimi believes these talks are premature. He warned that early election chatter distracts from real problems.
“Insecurity, inflation, and hardship need urgent attention,” he said.
Still, he made his loyalty clear.
“If Obi runs, I’ll be there to support him,” Farotimi declared.
Obi’s message of accountability and reform resonates with many Nigerians. Farotimi remains one of his most vocal allies.
Obidients, Accountability, and Political Timing
Farotimi has long criticized human rights abuses in Nigeria. He aligns with Obi’s ideology of good governance and transparency.
Obi’s 2023 campaign failed to win the presidency. However, it inspired a political awakening among many Nigerians. Supporters—known as “Obidients”—remain active across digital and grassroots platforms. They see Obi as a path to a fairer Nigeria.
However, Farotimi insists the focus must remain on the present. He urged Nigerians to pressure the current government to perform.
“Talking about 2027 now is a distraction,” he reiterated.
His comments echo warnings from analysts wary of election fatigue. Nigeria still faces serious problems.
Farotimi wants those addressed before campaign season begins again. Channels Television has not yet released the full program transcript. But the interview has sparked intense social media discussions.
Viewers debated Farotimi’s stance and Obi’s future. Many praised his call for accountability before politics. Whether Obi will run remains uncertain. But Farotimi has made his position clear. As Nigeria rebuilds post-2023, political alliances are forming again. And voices like Farotimi’s are shaping the national conversation.
