Dele Momodu Challenges Wike Over Absence During June 12 Struggle

Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has confronted Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, accusing him of behaving like Nigeria’s founding father.

During an interview on Wednesday, Momodu criticized Wike for seizing control of PDP decisions and destabilizing the party’s internal structure. He also questioned Wike’s commitment to democratic principles.

Momodu expressed concern that the hard-won democracy in Nigeria is deteriorating. “I’m glad today falls near June 12, our Democracy Day, because if we still have any conscience, we must admit that we’ve harmed this democracy,” he said.

He warned that the country is regressing to a state of civilian dictatorship. “On the eve of June 12, Nigeria is almost back under the control of leaders who disregard public opinion. Nigerians are suffering,” he said.

Momodu criticized the boldness of current politicians across all levels of government, calling their actions outrageous. He found it absurd that one individual—referring to Wike—who should be focused on duties in Abuja, is instead influencing the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket.

He likened Wike’s current behavior to his past conduct in Rivers State and alleged that powerful figures are backing him. “Where was Wike during the June 12 struggle?” Momodu asked. “Nobody knew him then, yet today, he talks as if he founded the country.”
