Kalu, addressing the press during a conference held by the House Committee on Constitution Review, reassured the public of a comprehensive timeline for the ongoing review of the 1999 constitution. He affirmed that the committee aims to present the first draft report by August 2024, with the final polished version set for submission to the President for assent in 2025. This announcement comes after the committee outlined a 24-month timeline during its inauguration on Monday in Abuja.

Key Thematic Areas for Deliberation Revealed

During the press conference, Kalu highlighted the critical thematic areas that will take center stage during the review process. These include Federal Structure and Power Devolution, Local Government/Local Government Autonomy, Public Revenue, Fiscal Federation, Gender, Strengthening Oversight of MDAs (Ministries, Departments, and Agencies), and the Call for State Police, among other pertinent subjects.

Broad Invitation for Public Participation in Good Governance Advocacy

In a bid to encourage broad public engagement, the Deputy Speaker extended an invitation for memoranda submissions on any matter that promotes good governance and the welfare of citizens.
