Edo’s Chief Judge Administers Oath of Office to Omobayo, the New Deputy Governor

In a formal ceremony, the Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has administered the oath of office to Omobayo Godwin, officially instating him as the new deputy governor of the state.

Omobayo’s appointment came swiftly after the impeachment of Philip Shaibu by Governor Godwin Obaseki. The impeachment followed the findings of a seven-man investigative panel convened by the Edo State House of Assembly to probe allegations of misconduct against Shaibu.

The impeachment proceedings, which began earlier this week, reached a dramatic culmination with a decisive vote resulting in Shaibu’s removal from office. In response to his impeachment, Shaibu expressed his dismay and condemned what he perceived as an unjust attack on democratic principles and his own aspirations, particularly his intention to contest the Edo Governorship election in 2024 under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Regarding Omobayo Godwin, the newly appointed deputy governor, he brings a wealth of expertise and experience to his new role. A 38-year-old with a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Omobayo is well-prepared for the demands of public administration.

He is a registered member of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Prior to his appointment, Omobayo served as a Senior Maintenance Engineer at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, where he gained valuable experience in operations in the South-South region, delivering exemplary services and contributing to the company’s growth.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Omobayo has been actively involved in local politics, fostering connections within his community, mobilizing support for common goals, and transcending political divides to the consternation of his adversaries.
