The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made a significant arrest, detaining the controversial celebrity figure, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, on charges of currency mutilation and abuse of the Nigerian Naira.
The arrest, confirmed by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, took place at Pinnock Estate in Lagos State on Wednesday. Oyewale affirmed that Bobrisky is currently in custody at the EFCC’s Lagos command and will soon face legal proceedings.
“Bobrisky is with us,” stated Oyewale. “He was apprehended last night in Lagos, and he is presently under our custody. We apprehended him for alleged abuse of Naira notes, spraying of Naira notes, and currency mutilation, among other offenses.”
The EFCC representative emphasized the seriousness of the agency’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the Nigerian currency. “We are deeply committed to restoring the dignity of the Naira,” Oyewale continued. “Though our investigation is ongoing, he will undoubtedly be brought before the court in due course.”
Bobrisky’s arrest has sparked public interest, with many awaiting further developments as the investigation unfolds. The EFCC’s actions underscore the gravity with which financial crimes are treated in Nigeria, reinforcing the imperative of respecting the nation’s currency laws.
