Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State paid a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, where he made an appeal for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Governor Mbah arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday to discuss the possibility of granting freedom to the secessionist agitator, who has received several favorable court judgments in his ongoing prosecution.
After the meeting, Governor Mbah informed reporters that he had pleaded with President Tinubu to release Kanu as part of a national healing process that the president has already initiated.
He expressed hope that the president would seriously consider the request for the self-proclaimed leader of IPOB to regain his freedom.
Additionally, during the meeting, the Enugu governor appealed to the federal government for assistance in exploring the abundant mineral resources in Enugu State, with the aim of benefiting the local population.
The efforts to secure the release of the detained IPOB leader have gained momentum, and there is growing optimism that President Tinubu may authorize his release soon.
