FCT Development: Wike Urges Critics to Appreciate Tinubu’s Works, “Even If You Hate Him”
Abuja, Nigeria – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday called on Nigerians, particularly those critical of President Bola Tinubu, to acknowledge and appreciate his administration’s developmental strides in the nation’s capital, even if they harbour personal dislike for him.
Speaking during the commissioning of the newly constructed Kugbo bus terminal in Abuja, Wike asserted that President Tinubu is actively transforming the FCT’s landscape and narrative, aiming to elevate it to compete with other major global cities.
“Even if I don’t like you but you are doing something good, I will appreciate you,” Wike stated, emphasizing a principle of objective assessment. “Mr. President has changed the landscape of Abuja, for Abuja to compete like other cities in the world.”
The Minister further challenged critics to set aside personal biases, stressing that any “right-thinking person who has conscience” would attest to Tinubu’s significant contributions to the FCT’s development within a short period. “So, even if you don’t like Mr. President for liking sake, any right thinking person, who has conscience would not say that Mr. President has not done a lot as far as Abuja is concerned,” he reiterated. “Mr President has changed the narrative as far as FCT is concerned.”
Wike also used the opportunity to reiterate his standing challenge to previous administrations, daring them to come forward and claim any of the projects currently being completed and commissioned under his leadership in the FCT, if indeed they were initiated or substantially completed by their tenures.
“And like I said yesterday, if there is any previous government that did this and we are claiming it, please you owe the public, come out and say, ‘no, we are the ones who did it, they are just claiming’,” Wike challenged. He noted the silence from past governments, adding, “I thought people would have come out since yesterday but nobody has said anything.”
