The FCT Police Command has initiated an investigation into the recent series of attacks and counter-attacks among factional leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) within the Abuja metropolis. SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Command, issued a statement providing an update on the measures taken by the police to quell the clashes and maintain peace in the area.

Adeh stated, “The FCT police command is aware of the news circulating regarding the recent clashes between factional NANS leaders within the Federal Capital Territory and wishes to clarify that the police command has launched an investigation into the matter.” She reassured residents that the command is committed to preventing any disruption of the peace enjoyed by the community and promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.

A viral video posted on X on Tuesday depicted armed individuals assaulting a young man and vandalizing a bus adorned with images of a factional NANS leader and former presidential candidate, Chibuzor Obi, in Zone 8, Abuja. Adeh reiterated the police’s dedication to maintaining peace and stated that efforts are being made to prevent any disturbances in the territory.

Efforts to obtain comments from both the substantive NANS President, Lucky Emenike, and factional President, Chinazor Obi, regarding the situation were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. It’s worth noting that ongoing clashes between two factions of NANS have been attributed to issues related to policies and internal disputes.
