Vehicle owners in Abuja may have reason to breathe a sigh of relief, as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the recovery of over 21 stolen vehicles in a major security operation.
Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale made the disclosure during the FCT Command’s end-of-month press briefing held at the police headquarters in Garki, Abuja. He said the vehicles, of various makes and models, were recovered across all six Area Commands in the territory in April 2025 alone.
According to CP Ajao, 15 suspects were directly linked to car theft operations, while a total of 1,611 individuals were arrested for various criminal offences during the same period.

“Crimes continue to evolve, and so must our strategies,” Ajao noted, highlighting ongoing efforts by the police and other security agencies to combat threats such as kidnapping, extrajudicial killings, vandalism of public infrastructure, and the infamous ‘one chance’ robbery syndicates.
He urged residents and visitors in the FCT to support the police by sharing timely and relevant information to aid crime prevention. “The peculiar nature of Abuja and our limited manpower make community cooperation crucial,” he said.
Ajao stressed the importance of the multi-agency approach adopted in policing the nation’s capital, describing it as key to addressing the growing complexity of criminal activities.
In addition to the recovered vehicles, other items seized from suspects include:
- 149 mobile phones
- 14 laptops
- 10 tablet devices
- 109 ATM cards
- 15 motorcycles
- 10 POS machines
- 2 power generators
- Large quantities of narcotics including cannabis, tramadol, codeine, ziphanol, Exol, and diazepam

The Commissioner reaffirmed the police’s commitment to securing lives and property in Abuja and promised continued crackdowns on criminal networks operating within the territory.
