The Federal Government has inaugurated a smart police station in Katampe, Abuja.
The facility aims to boost internal security and enhance grassroots policing efforts.
The Nigeria Police Trust Fund built the station and handed it over to the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday.
Officials say the station will improve efficiency and strengthen police-community relations in the Federal Capital Territory.
More smart police stations will soon open in Kogi, Enugu, and other regions.
Dr. Anuma Nla, representing the Minister of Police Affairs, praised the project during the event.
He called it a sign of the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order nationwide.
“This station shows our pledge to serve and protect every citizen,” Nla said.
He urged posted officers to act with professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights.
He stressed the need for fair, prompt, and accountable policing.
Nla reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for police capacity-building under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This project reflects our drive for a safer and more secure Nigeria,” he added.
He asked the Inspector General to assign digitally trained officers to maximize the station’s features.
Mohammed Sheidu, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, called the station a “mission statement for nation-building.”
He said the facility includes perimeter fencing, CCTV, water tanks, and a 30-kilowatt solar system.
The Rural Electrification Agency supported the off-grid solar power installation.
“This isn’t just a station. It’s a modern hub for efficient and community-focused policing,” Sheidu said.
He also launched a six-man housing project to improve officers’ living conditions.
“No officer should serve while struggling with poor living standards,” he noted.
He urged officers to maintain the new station with pride and professionalism.
He emphasized transparency and wise use of public resources at all levels.
