The Peace In the Southeast Project (PISE-P) gears up for a momentous occasion to celebrate Deputy Speaker Hon. Benjamin Kalu and advocate for non-kinetic strategies in the region.
In a press conference held today, Mrs. Mary Ikoku, Chairman of the Media and Communication Committee of the Peace In the Southeast Project (PISE-P), announced that all arrangements for the grand reception of Deputy Speaker Hon. Benjamin Kalu and the formal unveiling of PISE-P have been successfully concluded.
Mrs. Ikoku expressed gratitude for the Deputy Speaker’s commitment to public service and outstanding contributions to the people of the Southeast region and the nation as a whole.
The ceremony, set for December 29, 2023, aims to appreciate his remarkable achievements and tireless efforts.
Highlighting Hon. Benjamin Kalu’s pivotal role in shaping policies for the Bende local government area and the Southeast region, Mrs. Ikoku emphasized the Deputy Speaker’s dedication to the well-being and progress of the people.
Addressing the commitment of the Peace in the Southeast Project to restore peace in the region, Mrs. Ikoku stressed the importance of a non-kinetic strategy, advocating for dialogue as a preferable alternative to the current military enforcement approach. She appealed to the military to adjust their operational strategy, emphasizing the need for negotiation and dialogue with the armed youths.
In his remarks, Ogbonna Ukuku, the Director of PISE-P, praised the House of Representatives for the Third Reading of the Bill on the establishment of the Southeast Development Commission. He highlighted that the passage of the bill would support the PISE-P initiative, marking the formal declaration of peace in the Southeast.
Ukuku clarified the eight pillars of the project, outlining Agriculture, Education, Leadership and good governance, Sports and Entertainment, culture, and Tourism as key components for empowering and reintegrating the armed youths in the crisis-ravaged region.
The reception, organized by the Peace in Southeast Project and the people of Bende Local government area of Abia State, is expected to draw attendees from across the country. It is anticipated to be a significant gathering, symbolizing the declaration of peace in the Southeast.
