On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu conducted a meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Mele Kyari.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and marked President Tinubu’s first official engagement following his inauguration as the 16th President of the country at Eagle Square, Abuja.
President Tinubu arrived at the State House’s forecourt around 2:30 pm, using his official entrance gate, where he was welcomed by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Tijjani Umar, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the outgoing Director of Protocol.
Other notable attendees included CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, NNPC Group CEO Mele Kyari, and a member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. James Faleke.
The President proceeded directly to his office, accompanied by Emefiele, Kyari, Gbajabiamila, Faleke, and other participants. While the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed publicly, it is believed to be related to the removal of fuel subsidies and the ongoing fuel scarcity issue.
According to Punch newspapers, it is also anticipated that topics such as the unification of foreign exchange and the recent Naira Redesign may be discussed.
It is worth noting that in President Tinubu’s inaugural speech, he announced the end of fuel subsidies, which led to the immediate closure of many filling stations.
The meeting aims to address the challenges associated with these developments and seek viable solutions to ensure a stable fuel supply for the nation.
