FUOYE Breaks Silence on Student’s Death, Denies Corpse Mutilation

Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State – The Management of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti state, has officially broken its silence regarding the tragic death of Modupe Atanda, a 200-level Nursing student, and has specifically addressed circulating reports about the condition of her corpse.

In a statement released by the university on Friday, the institution clarified that while Atanda’s death was a deeply unfortunate incident resulting from stab wounds, reports suggesting her body was mutilated are inaccurate.

“The university management is aware of the widespread reports claiming the corpse of our late student, Modupe Atanda, was mutilated. We wish to state unequivocally, based on the information available to us from the initial examinations and reports, that this claim is not true,” the statement read in part.

The university acknowledged the profound grief and shock caused by Atanda’s untimely death, which occurred recently on campus. Her body was reportedly discovered in a bushy area near a hostel within the university premises.

While confirming that Modupe Atanda succumbed to injuries sustained from stab wounds, the management emphasized that medical and security reports seen so far do not indicate mutilation as widely rumoured on social media and in some reports.

The FUOYE management reiterated its commitment to cooperating fully with security agencies investigating the incident to ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous act are apprehended and brought to justice.

The university also appealed to the public and the student community to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that could exacerbate tensions or distract from the ongoing investigation. Measures to enhance security on campus are reportedly being reviewed and implemented.

The death of Modupe Atanda has sparked outrage and calls for justice across the state and beyond, prompting the university’s management to provide clarity amidst the various accounts circulating about the incident.
