The Abdullahi and Hafsatu Ganduje Foundation has actively donated N10 million to Dr. Mahmud Muhammad, a medical doctor at Uthman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, to support his eye surgery and help prevent total blindness.
During the cash donation ceremony, the Foundation’s acting Director-General, Dr. Abubakar Isah Bakori, emphasized the urgency of the support. He explained that Dr. Mahmud, who has devoted his career to treating others, now requires a cornea transplant to restore his vision.
“As someone who has been serving others selflessly, Dr. Mahmud now needs our collective support. This donation reflects our gratitude for his contributions to the health of Nigerians,” Dr. Bakori stated.
The Foundation presented the donation through the Resident Doctors Association in Sokoto. The funds will cover Dr. Mahmud’s medical treatment at Aravind Eye Hospital in India.
Doctors diagnosed Dr. Mahmud with a hazy cornea and deep cornea vascularization months ago, conditions that have led to bilateral blindness.
In response, the Chief Medical Director of UDUTH, Prof. Anas A. Sabir, the President of the Hospital’s Resident Doctors Association, Dr. Murtala Bello Ibrahim, and the MBBS Class of 2013 from the University of Maiduguri acknowledged the donation in letters to the Foundation’s Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. They expressed gratitude and pledged to ensure proper use of the funds.
