Governor Eno Reaffirms Strong Support for Nigerian Army in Ensuring Peace in Akwa Ibom

Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, reiterated his unwavering support for the Nigerian Army (NA) and acknowledged their sacrifices in the face of challenging security situations, which have contributed to maintaining peace in Akwa Ibom. This declaration was made during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, to the Government House in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

Governor Eno emphasized that the commitment and dedication of Nigerian Army troops, working in collaboration with other security agencies, have been instrumental in upholding peace in Akwa Ibom, thereby creating a conducive environment for socio-economic development. He further highlighted the long-standing strong relationship between the State Government and the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, which led to the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways. This ministry was established to enable proactive and effective cooperation between the state government and security forces, fostering meaningful security in the state.

Governor Eno also revealed that the state has procured 14 patrol boats to patrol the coastal areas of the state and address the challenges of piracy and kidnapping.

The purpose of the Chief of Army Staff’s visit was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the readiness of the formations and units of the Nigerian Army and to inaugurate a Civil-Military project initiated by Major General Uwem Bassey, a native of Akwa Ibom, at Headquarters 2 Brigade.

General Lagbaja expressed his gratitude to the Governor for the exceptional support extended to the Brigade and the 6 Battalion in Abak, enhancing their operational effectiveness. He stressed that the Nigerian Army belongs to all Nigerians and is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for economic growth and development in Akwa Ibom and across the nation.
