In preparation for the forthcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11, 2023, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the redeployment of Imo State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Barde, to the Force Headquarters for special duties.
Force Spokesman ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement said the decision to reshuffle the CP highlights the unwavering commitment of the Police Force to upholding the rule of law and maintaining strict impartiality throughout the electoral process.
Adejobi said the redeployment does not constitute any indictment of the affected officer but is instead part of a comprehensive strategy designed to enhance security measures, enhance transparency, and preserve the integrity of electoral security management.
The IGP remains determined to ensure a secure environment for all stakeholders, political parties, candidates, and citizens to participate in the electoral process. He calls on all individuals to collaborate with the Police and other security agencies and to adhere to the law to ensure a smooth and successful election while upholding democratic principles.
