In a tragic incident, gunmen targeted the convoy of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, resulting in the death of a police officer.
The attack occurred at Ihube community along the Okigwe-Enugu Expressway. Ihube has been plagued by the activities of terrorists who have been terrorizing travelers, carrying out kidnappings and killings for ransom.
Okorocha disclosed the attack on his convoy during a birthday celebration for Samuel Anyanwu, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the upcoming governorship election in Imo State.
Expressing his disappointment, Okorocha described the slain officer as one of the policemen assigned from the State Government House to attend the burial ceremony of the mother of the immediate past governor, Emeka Ihedioha.
Okorocha expressed his anger and concern over the deteriorating security situation in Imo State, emphasizing the need for capable leadership.
According to an anonymous aide of the former governor who spoke topunch newspapers, the convoy’s vehicles, including a Sports Utility Vehicle, a bus, and a Hilux, were severely damaged by the assailants’ gunfire.
Additionally, two other security personnel were initially kidnapped but later released on the same day.
