Hajj 2025: Two Nigerian Pilgrims Dies in Saudi Arabia

Two Nigerian pilgrims participating in the ongoing 2025 Hajj in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, have died in separate incidents.

Report confirmed that 75-year-old Adizatu Dazumi from Edo State and Alhaji Saleh Galeh, a prominent businessman from Abia State and Chairman of the Lokpanta Cattle Market, lost their lives on Monday.

Galeh’s death shocked many in his community and among fellow pilgrims. A source familiar with the incident said, “He answered the call of Allah peacefully while performing the sacred pilgrimage.”

Organizers scheduled funeral prayers (Salatul Janaza) for Galeh at the Haram Mosque in Makkah on Tuesday during the Zuhr (afternoon) prayer.

Muslim organisations, including the Islamic Calling Family (ICF) in Imo State, offered their condolences. The ICF confirmed in a Facebook post that Abia State pilgrims were organizing his burial in coordination with the National Hajj Commission and the state’s contingent.

“One of the Abia State pilgrims, the Chairman of Lokpanta Cattle Market, Saleh Galeh, passed last night (Monday) in Makkah. We are preparing for his Janaza, which will be held during Zuhr prayer on Tuesday at the Haram,” the ICF wrote.

In another incident, Adizatu Dazumi from Jattu Uzairue in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State died on Monday after a brief illness.

She reportedly fell ill shortly after performing the Tawaaf (ritual circumambulation of the Kaaba) and received treatment at King Fahad General Hospital in Makkah, where she passed away on Monday.

The Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Musah Uduimoh, confirmed her death. “We buried her in Makkah the same day in accordance with Islamic tradition, and we have informed her family in Jattu Uzairue,” he said.

Uduimoh extended condolences to Dazumi’s family and assured all pilgrims that the board remained committed to ensuring their safety and welfare throughout the pilgrimage.
