Honorable Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere , Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), has conveyed his unwavering confidence in the Nigerian Army’s capacity, led by Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, to effectively tackle the prevailing security issues currently affecting the nation.
This assertion was made on Friday, August 4, 2023, during a courtesy visit by Chairman Ugochinyere and other committee members to the office of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Honorable Ugochinyere lauded the COAS for taking decisive measures to address emerging security challenges, contributing to the pursuit of peace and stability in the country. He reiterated the committee’s commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Army in safeguarding national economic interests and territorial integrity.
The Chairman also expressed satisfaction with the COAS’s resolute determination and commitment to combating security threats in troubled regions across the nation.
In response, the COAS expressed gratitude for the committee’s visit and for placing trust in the Nigerian Army’s capabilities to restore order in areas facing difficulties.
General Lagbaja assured the committee members that comprehensive strategies have been devised for all troubled regions and that appropriate measures are being implemented. He affirmed the Nigerian Army’s dedication to enhancing both kinetic and non-kinetic operations in order to uphold the safety and security of the country.
The Army Chief emphasized his willingness to maintain a strong partnership between the Nigerian Army and the Legislative Branch of Government, as well as other crucial stakeholders, to fulfill the constitutional responsibilities of the military.
