In a significant development, the House of Representatives has directed the Committee on Works to conduct an exhaustive review of all abandoned Federal Government projects across Nigeria. The mandate encompasses a thorough examination of project details, such as the scope of work, commencement date, contract value, funds expended, and the current stage of work. The Committee is expected to liaise with relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and formulate an effective plan to ensure the completion of these projects. A comprehensive report is anticipated within four weeks, paving the way for further legislative action.

The motion, spearheaded by Hon. Joseph Adegbesan, underscores the alarming statistics revealing that over 60,000 projects nationwide have been left in abeyance. This situation not only impedes citizens from enjoying the benefits of their tax contributions and natural resources but also reflects a staggering total project value amounting to trillions of Naira.

Expressing deep concern, Hon. Joseph Adegbesan emphasized that the abandoned projects were initially conceived and designed to enhance the overall standard of living for Nigerians. These encompass critical sectors such as electrification, power infrastructure improvement, provision of potable water, advancement of education quality, enhancement of healthcare facilities, and the construction of vital road networks and bridges.

The House of Representatives is poised to address this issue comprehensively, seeking accountability and effective strategies for the successful completion of these projects. The Committee on Works will play a pivotal role in this process, ensuring transparency and diligence in the review, while the ultimate aim is to revitalize projects that hold the potential to significantly impact the lives of Nigerian citizens positively.
