The House of Representatives has taken action to ensure transparency and accountability by summoning the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The purpose of this summons is to request the Minister’s briefing on the methodology employed for the distribution of the N1.1 Trillion conditional cash transfer to 15 million households in Nigeria.

This decision was reached following the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance during a plenary session, raised by Hon. Abdulmaruf Adebayo, a member representing Irepodun Federal Constituency in Osun State.

Hon. Adebayo highlighted the unsatisfactory feedback regarding the handling of palliatives for vulnerable Nigerians by some Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), which has not significantly alleviated the prevailing hardship in the country.

The motion was unanimously adopted without further debate after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas called for a voice vote, which favored the majority in the House. The matter has been referred to the Committee on Constituency and Poverty Alleviation for further legislative action.

The conditional cash transfer program represents an immediate federal government intervention aimed at mitigating the consequences of the removal of petroleum subsidies
