I deliberately Closed Borders-Buhari

During the inauguration of a new Customs Headquarters in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari emphasized that the policies implemented by his administration were intentionally designed for the progress of the country. Speaking on Tuesday, he highlighted that these policies had transformed into legacy programs that brought joy to the people and the nation.

One notable policy he mentioned was the ban on the importation of foreign rice. President Buhari explained that the deliberate closure of the borders was aimed at promoting self-sufficiency in food production.

He stated, “I deliberately closed the borders. I said it is either you eat what you grow or you grow what you eat, and later Nigerians appreciated it.”

Regarding corruption, the president asserted that he had nothing to hide and those who criticize Nigerian leaders for misappropriation and misconduct would face challenges with him.

He emphasized the need for a cordial relationship with neighboring African countries, highlighting his initial visits to Niger, Chad, and Cameroon as part of his presidency’s commitment to securing their trust and cooperation.

The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, also addressed the gathering, considering the new customs headquarters as a symbol of the government’s dedication to efficient service delivery.

She assured that the welfare of customs staff remained a priority for her ministry’s leadership.
